You know I’m smiling!

July 4, 2008

Yes, I have successfully gotten past the most hectic events of the summer; graduation party, wedding & the mission trip. I would not recommend it to anyone but it was a lot of fun and great memories! Now onto more exciting events; a large Collins family reunion, Katie leaving for college, teaching in September and BCF’s 25th anniversary. That will take me thru September and after that hopefully a long weekend getaway with Ron.

Worth posting again…

July 4, 2008

The constant theme thru this years mission trip to Mexico; He is the God of this City. Wherever we went we would speak that into that town. 235 people gave their lives to Christ that week. Not a big number but we focused on the one lost sheep. I believe the ones who came to Christ will do great things for their villages! The love our team shared planted deep seeds into the hearts of God’s children. Our team this year was small and mighty; they were truly the “hands and feet” that God needed in these high mountain remote villages that I would have never thought existed; but God knew and led us to them.

Going into the world to share the gospel is what we are called to do. Whether that means right at home or to every corner of the globe it is a humbling honor.

You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You are

You’re the light in this darkness
You’re the hope to the hopeless
You’re the peace to the restless
You are

For there is no-one like our God
There is no-one like our God

Greater things have yet to come
Greater things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things have still to be done here

You’re the Lord of creation
The creator of all things
You’re the King above all kings

You’re the strength in the weakness
You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness

Greater things have yet to come
Greater things have still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for You and
Love for you in this city

May 28, 2008

This is a picture of my Aunt Marge and Uncle Fred. Marge is my dad’s older sister. They are in the midst of a journey most of us will only dream of. They sold everything and are traveling around the world! They flew to Amsterdam on April 13th and have been traveling ever since. Check out their blog and some of the beautiful photos. This is retirement!! www.gowithmargefred.blogspot.com

This is my beautiful mom. 58 years of marriage, raised 8 children and has 26 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. I treasure every moment I get to spend with her and have nothing but fond loving memories of my mom. Happy Mother’s Day mom!

18 days

May 6, 2008

In 18 days all the planning will begin to come into fruition. My parents arrive in 18 days from NC, the girls graduation in 19 days, Ashley gets married 20 days from today. I have a 2 week period before Katie’s graduation party and then 1 more week before I take 19 people on a mission trip. My goal is to make it to June 29th! Of course work couldn’t be much busier right now either. The key to it all; organization.

I have been extremely calm this whole planning phase but I can begin to feel my nerves unravel. I just have to keep reminding myself to breathe, take it one day at a time and just let everyone in my path come out alive in the end! (haha, humor helps!)

My Vegetarian Starter Kit Arrived!

May 4, 2008

About a month ago Ron & I traveled up to Solon to shop at The Mustard Seed in search of anything non dairy. We were actually amazed at the vast array of products available. Now we are not big fans of soy, but really like the Rice milk products. Here are some recommendations after we shopped:

Rice Dream milk is awesome. Similar consistency to 2% milk and just slightly sweeter. Rice Dream ice cream is quite tasty; we tried both mint chocolate chip & chocolate covered ice cream bars. Rice Dream cheese; the shredded is fine since your probably mixing it in something. The “American” slices…well they are ok melted on a grilled cheese but to unwrap and just eat a slice…I wouldn’t recommend it.

So, what does this have to do with my title? The sight that got us started with all this is www.milksucks.com. Ron ran across this while researching diabetes & the effects milk has on the pancreas. It is a website associated with Peta and I signed up to get the vegetarian starter kit. I also spent sometime watching the video’s they post on the sight. Obviously they are going to show you the worst they possibly can, but it is just heart breaking to see what goes on. Now I am not ready to not eat meat but it is very eye opening. I’m not sure I like the idea of all the chemicals they inject into chickens to get them to grow faster or to get cows to produce abnormal amounts of milk & having pigs that arrive dead at the slaughter house from the conditions they travel in. If we eat these, then a lot of those same chemicals are going into our bodies.

What do you think? Would you be willing to give up eating meat because of the way animals are treated? Are you concerned with the hormones being injected into these animals? What do you do to make sure your family is eating healthy?
